May 29, 2017 · Mazda CX-9. May 29, 2017. #1. There appears to be a second button on the outside of the liftgate, on the right side (the liftgate open/close is in the center.) The button beeps when pressed but does nothing else that I can tell. Owners's manual comes up empty, but I may be not looking in right place. 1 Switch the ignition off and close all of the doors and the liftgate. 2 Open the driver's door. 3 Within 30 seconds of opening the driver's door, press and hold the LOCK button on the key for 5 seconds or longer. I am having sporadic problems when it is not locking properly. iIt goes up and down without any issues, but doesn't lock (just beeps). Once in a while i have to reset the ignition for it to close. The gate looks like its aligned properly. idk if this helps any but when its open and I try to hit the button it beeps 3 times. If its closed and I pull the handle on the back it doesnt do anything. .
